Subsea connections and mapped underwater utilities

Reference snapshot compiled October 15, 2026. This layer supplements existing Infrastructure fibre, pipeline and power layers. It does not establish live traffic, electrical energisation, fluid flow, service availability or complete global coverage.

Trans-Pacific fibre connectivity

Purple dashed great-circle lines join documented same-system landing localities for selected FASTER, Unity, JUPITER, Pacific Light Cable Network and PC-1 connections. Lines are Watchtower-authored schematics, not surveyed seabed alignments, adjacent physical segments or branch-unit locations. Locality dots are approximate two-decimal-degree references, not verified landing-station coordinates. Crossing or overlapping lines do not imply a junction. Two cable systems sharing a locality do not imply an optical cross-connect.

Eleven selected endpoint links represent five systems, not eleven separate cables. Branches and additional landing points may be omitted. PLCN's cancelled US–Hong Kong connection is excluded. Source-reported service/licensing history is retained; current operations are not measured.

Mapped underwater power cables and pipelines

Gold and coral lines preserve OpenStreetMap source vertices. Underwater includes inland-water crossings. Counts are mapped way segments, not unique systems. Source-tagged construction, proposed, disused, abandoned, removed and demolished segments are hidden by default. Untagged lifecycle means unverified, not operational.

Source queries explicitly select underwater/submarine power ways and underwater/submarine pipeline ways/seamarks. Shared-node components use original OSM node identities, never nearest-neighbour snapping. Component counts include historical records and do not prove physical coupling or live flows. Gaps in mapped geometry remain gaps.

Existing blue fibre lines remain the separate October 2 OSM fibre snapshot. The new source projection does not replace licensed provider datasets or bypass access controls.

Date line and map behaviour

All new routes split at ±180° with matching seam coordinates. Map world wrapping lets the Pacific view show Asia and America together without long chords across Europe or Africa. Pacific view frames the selected relationships; ordinary map panning, fullscreen and basemap changes remain available. Zoomed viewport-only source requests still require a single bounded longitude box; dated global reference layers stay available across the date line. Live additions hide during replay or when access verification is not ready.
