Worldwide fibre and cable references

Coverage and dates
OpenStreetMap snapshots: routes 2026-10-02 20:49:02 UTC; landing stations 20:50:01 UTC. The dataset contains 19,935 route segments (1,463 submarine/underwater and 18,472 land/unspecified) and 58 mapped landing-station records. These are source segments, not counts of unique cable systems, and are not an exhaustive worldwide inventory.
Confirmed fibre is based on explicit source medium tags. Unspecified medium is shown dashed and must not be interpreted as confirmed fibre. Known copper/coax routes are excluded from the default view. Construction, disused and abandoned records are excluded by default. Unspecified lifecycle does not establish current operation. Underwater includes inland-water crossings; unspecified placement is not necessarily terrestrial.
Geometry and connections
Routes use actual mapped OSM geometry rather than invented connections between cities, data centers or landing sites. Lines crossing the antimeridian are split for map display. Geometry is approximate, not surveyed cable alignment. Station area centers are labelled bounding-box centers. Proximity and crossings do not establish physical interconnection, capacity, live traffic, ownership or outage status.
