Country demographics
Countries → Demographics. Source methods reviewed 18 October 2026.
What is included
The new demographic projection covers the existing 250 country, economy and territory entries. It combines 91 World Bank statistical series, including 49 additions to the previous country dataset, with separately identified cultural and social reference fields already present in the pinned country archive.
Topics include population and sex totals, 17 age bands for each source sex, dependency, births and fertility, survival and mortality, education and cumulative attainment, labor participation, youth unemployment and NEET, migration, settlement and basic living conditions. Missing observations stay missing. There is no demographic risk score or change to existing country-risk and financial calculations.
Age and sex pyramid
Each pyramid requires all 34 five-year age/sex percentages and the female population share from one common reporting year. Age bands are 0–4 through 75–79 and 80+. The newest complete common year is used by default; incomplete or non-reconciling inputs withhold the chart.
World Bank age-band values are percentages within the relevant male or female population. Watchtower multiplies each by the same-year sex share to display percentages of the total population. Male share is 100 minus female share. Inputs must sum to approximately 100% within each sex. No cross-year mixing, missing-bin filling, interpolation or population-count imputation is performed. Original within-sex values and the formula remain available.
Male/female are the statistical source categories; these data do not enumerate all gender identities. Country/territory definitions and estimates follow the issuing source.
Religion, languages and ethnic origins
These panels reorganize existing public-domain CIA World Factbook archive fields, pinned through factbook.json. CIA retired the World Factbook on February 4, 2026. The archive is a historical reference: retrieving it now does not confirm its contents as current.
Religious affiliation is not belief intensity, religious practice, political opinion or an inference about an individual. Original descriptions, reporting years, qualifications and source links are retained. Languages and ancestry/ethnic-origin answers may overlap, allow multiple responses or omit groups. They are not normalized to 100%, ranked by a normative score or combined across separate archive territories.
Only unambiguous top-level percentages are charted. Nested percentages and narrative-only statements remain in the original text. Less-than and approximate qualifiers remain visible. Empty coverage does not mean zero adherents or a homogeneous population.
Dates, definitions and history
The collector checks World Bank WDI data daily and definitions weekly, retaining up to six non-empty observations per country/indicator. These need not be consecutive years. A year selector applies exact reporting years; missing years are not interpolated. Latest values for different indicators can have different periods, including older historical observations.
Source reporting year, World Bank update date and collection timestamp remain separate. Data can include modeled estimates. Percentage denominators differ: youth unemployment uses the youth labor force, NEET uses youth population, educational attainment can be cumulative, gross enrollment can exceed 100%, and dependency ratios use working-age population. Consult each measure's definition before comparing.
Failures retain dated previous data as stale within a bounded retention window. Coverage is source-specific; all 250 selectable profiles do not imply complete statistical or cultural coverage.
Sources, attribution and access
World Bank open-data licensing: CC BY 4.0 and applicable underlying-provider attribution/definitions. WDI metadata retains UN Population Division, UNESCO, ILO, national statistical offices and other original organizations. No unit-record microdata or private provider feeds are used. CIA archive material remains separately attributed public domain with its exact revision.
The public read-only /agent/api/country-demographics endpoint supports catalog, coverage, country, series, comparison and sources views. MCP discovery exposes the same reviewed data. Source snapshots and native catalogue pagination are separate from MCP JSON-pointer pagination. Country exports include provenance, original cultural wording and calculation methods.
Country comparisons preserve each source period and denominator; selecting “latest” does not ensure equal years. Desktop/mobile views, replay clearing and late-response country identity checks are verified independently of the truth or completeness of every source statement.
