A broader evidence base
This release expands CBDC & Digital Money to 46 reviewed project and framework records with 49 official and issuer source definitions. Sources include BIS, the ECB, the Swiss National Bank, the Reserve Bank of India, the FSB and the joint IMF–FSB policy synthesis. Coverage gaps and source qualifications remain visible.
Five BIS survey vintages, covering survey years 2020–2024, retain each report’s respondent count, publication date and reported engagement percentage. They measure central banks’ engagement in CBDC work—not launched currencies or population adoption.
Follow the event, the measurement and the source
New views distinguish observed milestones, completed tests, report dates and announced future targets. Reported Agorá and digital-rupee pilot measurements keep their original units, reporting periods and scope. Wholesale settlement links, retail CBDCs, tokenised bank deposits and private stablecoins remain separate.
What changed records source-content changes and affected projects. BIS updates surfaces relevant discovered links for inspection. Neither a webpage change nor a headline automatically promotes a project’s maturity rating.
History that starts with observations
Stablecoin market and token histories begin accumulating with this update, using ordinary source observations with stated bounds and original capture times. Missing history is not filled with invented observations. These provider valuations are not national money supply or reserve certification.
Use the Workspace view selector, Expand data and fullscreen to read the datasets. Filters and Export selection are available in Layers → All controls. An exact project can be put in Pro Brief while you remain in the research workspace.

Refresh Watchtower, then open Advanced / Investigate → CBDC & Digital Money. The updated guide explains survey denominators, programme stages, source freshness, history limits and the distinction between pilot activity and adoption.
