Reported balances first

Global Debt now includes clickable clocks for total nonfinancial, general-government, private nonfinancial, household and corporate debt where compatible BIS evidence is available. Every card starts with a reported balance and its reference quarter. Run clock extends that balance using the previous four-quarter change; Pause holds the displayed estimate timestamp, and Resume catches up.

The same clocks on Signal Board

Use + Signal Board on a Global Debt card, or choose Debt clocks in the Signal Board picker and search for an economy. Clock tiles use the same calculation and session playback as Global Debt, with evidence details and model downloads. Existing board selections and layouts are retained; new clock pins are account-local in the current browser.

Coverage you can inspect

The initial source snapshot reports 2026 Q1 balances: total, private, household and corporate coverage spans 43 economies. Two separately labelled general-government clocks cover 28 economies at market value and 42 at nominal value. These are overlapping valuation alternatives, never added together. Global cards are explicitly covered-economy subtotals, not complete world debt. The member list and exact input observations are available in Evidence. Different sector universes and overlapping totals must not be added together.

What a running clock means

The animation is an illustrative linear continuation of the latest four-quarter USD debt-stock change, not measured live borrowing, interest accrual or a calibrated forecast. Publisher USD changes include exchange rates, valuations and revisions. Five consecutive comparable quarters are required; missing or ambiguous data, expired source refreshes, an annual change above the stated review guard or the 365-day projection horizon keep a clock reported-only. Animated dollars rounded to $1,000 do not imply that measurement precision.
