Spot recent source records
Eligible point icons first encountered within 30 minutes of their source event, warning issue, publication or position time blink until opened. Unread state remains latched while the source stays eligible; clicking or tapping preserves the marker and opens its normal details.
Supported layers span Natural Hazards, the global globe, Conflict & Military, Air & Aviation, Marine, Weather Alerts, Outages, Mobility, Incident Graph, Linked Events, Insurance and qualified Crime reporting. Shared aircraft/contact identities keep routine position refreshes from restarting the indicator.
Keep the evidence and your reading state
Source dates and geometry retain their original meaning. Forecasts, static references, aggregate scores, historical/coarse-time records and source collection timestamps do not become new events. An unread report is not independently verified incident truth.
Acknowledgements persist for the account in the current browser, including existing Natural Hazards acknowledgements. Reduced motion uses steady highlights. Hidden, replay and unverified views suspend live attention; cluster expansion does not mark every member read.
Try it on a native live map
Refresh Watchtower and open a supported event or contact layer. The unread-icons note links to a guide covering source eligibility and browser-local persistence. Actual source availability determines which icons can qualify.
Reference-only maps remain steady. Externally hosted AIS, Google and OpenStreetMap embeds retain their providers’ controls. This is a visual reading aid, not emergency delivery, complete global detection or a predictive claim.
