Recognize what a map marker represents

Weather observations, transport locations, cameras, financial reference points, health evidence, events and resource locations gain compact type icons. The global globe, satellite catalogue and historical fireball and orbital views use corresponding artwork alongside the existing hazard, infrastructure and military icons.

The artwork is supplied with Watchtower so that map markers have consistent shapes across desktop and mobile browsers. Source colors, quantitative background circles, numbered clusters and the existing layer controls retain their roles.

Open the same source details

Clicking or tapping the icon follows the map's existing selection and detail flow. Icons follow native filters, visibility changes, style reloads and source clearing.

Source dates, location uncertainty and coverage remain available in the existing evidence panels. Satellite and orbital icons follow the existing source-epoch and calculation rules; icon orientation alone does not establish a direction of travel. Third-party embedded maps retain their provider-controlled rendering.
