Global warnings in one workspace
The Natural Hazards map now includes the still-valid warnings already retained by Weather Alerts, preserving issuing-authority dates, validity, instructions and supplied polygons or circles. Records without source geometry remain searchable in the event list.
The filter controls have been redesigned, with V for volcanic records and L for landslides. Additional filters cover ash, snow, ice, rain, wind, heat, cold, coastal hazards, dust, lightning, fog and air quality. Some related-hazard tags describe source wording, not independently confirmed events.
Volcanoes and published ash areas
NASA EONET open volcanic listings are restored with their original observation dates. An old observation date no longer conceals a continuing open catalogue entry, but an open listing does not prove a continuing eruption. USGS observatory messages, GeoNet native alert levels and recent global VAAC bulletins provide additional source context.
Published observed or estimated airborne ash polygons and forecast areas retain their native flight levels and valid times. Ground ashfall, pyroclastic-flow and other volcanic hazards remain tied to issuing-source notices and supplied warning geometry. Watchtower does not invent ground fallout cones or pyroclastic runout areas.
Landslides and reference layers
NASA COOLR report locations are available as a historical/report-based layer, with reporting and location-accuracy limits kept visible. Optional NASA LHASA raster context is a model, not an observed landslide or an official warning; this image service does not supply a run timestamp.
Map layers also include GEM Global Active Faults and NOAA-hosted Smithsonian volcano reference locations. These are dated geological/reference datasets, not predictions or current activity classifications. Regional coverage gaps and source attribution remain available in the methods panel.
Readable weather and new-alert signals
Temperature cards show degree values and labelled rain/liquid-equivalent and snowfall-depth gauges. Source accumulation windows remain visible; missing snow is not zero, and rain is not converted into snow with an assumed ratio. Explicit snowfall depth is available for selected US NWS forecast samples.
New-alert indicators use source issuance or occurrence time and stop after ten minutes rather than restarting with each refresh. Future, undated, day-only, expired, stale, model-sample and reference records do not flash. Reduced-motion mode uses a static indication. Fullscreen retains an optional Layers & filters drawer.
