More historical depth

The new Conflicts & wars view adds 146 source-linked editorial dossiers spanning ancient wars, imperial and colonial conflicts, civil wars, recent conflict backgrounds and explicitly labelled territorial and resource disputes. Every dossier includes actors, underlying causes, immediate triggers, resources and war finance, religion and identity, outside involvement, civilian consequences, peace efforts, a timeline and interpretive limits.

Browse the retained source record

Two additional collections make the existing UCDP 26.1 history easier to explore: 303 state-based conflict identities from 2,816 conflict-year rows, and 1,001 non-state actor pairs from 1,821 pair-year rows. Each profile retains its recorded years, changing actor names, source-defined issues and complete original normalized year records. These collections overlap the dossiers and are not an additive total of unique wars.

Search, read and export

Filter by country, region, historical period and theme, or search names, causes, resources and beliefs. Open complete dossiers, jump between sections, expand the workspace and export every filtered match across all pages. Country links lead to existing evidence and separately dated recent political reporting.

Keep dates and explanations in view

The annual source catalogue extends through 2025. Recent editorial backgrounds stop at their stated year, at latest 2024; the library edition and reference-link check dates do not establish current conflict status. Resources, religious ideas, political claims and civilian identities are described distinctly, and the historical source tables do not invent motives they do not contain. The expansion does not assign new war probabilities.
